Celebrating 30th Anniversary

September 12, 2022

U.S. Business Systems would like to thank the surrounding communities as the company celebrates its 30th anniversary in business this year! Without the support of local businesses in the communities, the last 30 years would not have been possible, as those relationships have remained at the core of the business to this day.

From the very beginning, the founders stressed the importance of relationships and quality service. After years of experience, founders Tim Hulett, Ron Hulett, and Dan Foster, recognized a lack of integrity and neglect of service in the industry. With the help of the Hulett parents, U.S. Business Systems was founded in 1992 with the intent to set a new standard by emphasizing relationships and providing superior service.

The doors first opened at the original location on Cassopolis Street in Elkhart. The first equipment sold to Scott United Methodist Church of Shipshewana, followed by Cassopolis Public Schools of Cass County, who remains a customer to this day. These small successes led the company to hire its first sales representative in 1994, the same year the company serviced its first computer. U.S. Business Systems moved to its current location on Southview Drive and continued its expansion shortly after with the opening of a location in Berrien Springs.

While the business was doing well, the founders recognized additional room for improvement. In 1998, they attended a conference where keynote speaker, Richard Cashman of the United Kingdom, emphasized the need for businesses to promote themselves as a company instead of only selling products. Inspired by his presentation, Hulett approached Cashman about consulting for U.S. Business Systems, who agreed to offer advice in return for a ride to the airport. This was the start of a long-term relationship that still exists today, as Cashman now serves on the board and continues to advise the company.

Ron Hulett became CEO in 1999 when the board was formalized. He remained in this role until 2014 when Michael Kidd, long-time vendor and Minolta District Manager, took over the role so Hulett could focus on further developing the managed network service (MNS) sector of the business. Two years later in 2016, the printer service/supplies sector would also be further developed.

Throughout the years, U.S. Business Systems has been heavily involved in the surrounding communities. Employees have participated with Walk a Mile in Her Shoes, Habitat for Humanity, and school systems by building a playground, donations, and hosting a logo design competition. Individual students from participating schools submitted designs for the company logo. All schools were rewarded and the individual winner was acknowledged by U.S. Business Systems, including use of the logo ever since.

What do the next 30 years of business look like for U.S. Business Systems? The company looks forward to implementing future technologies so that local businesses can continue to grow through operational efficiency and productivity.
